Day of Worship, Rest and Preparation

Katie Colson: Feliz Dia de las Madres!
This morning we began our day by worshiping with the community at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Little did we know, today was the day they celebrated mother's day, so happy mother's day all the way from the Dominican Republic! While in the community of La Lechosa, we were also able to walk around the school that opened last year across the street from the church. Last time I came on this trip, in 2014, there was only an open field and a giant rock pile where the school now stands. How amazing that our group was able to contribute to this project over the past few years...we were told there are now 500 kids that attend the school everyday! Wow! We are hoping to go back to the school later this week to visit with some of the children during school hours. After eating lunch back at the mission house, we enjoyed a warm afternoon at the beach. The cool water was very refreshing and we were able to relax a little before beginning our work week. This evening we are continuing to prepare for our week, which consists of sorting VBS supplies, water filters, and counting/labeling medications for the medical clinic. During our nightly devotion, Teresa distributed prayer cards to our group from various members of our church family. So thank you Trinity for your prayers!! Please continue to pray for the work we will be doing this upcoming week!

Jacob Colson: Today is always the day that is out of the ordinary. We are able to really experience Dominican culture and be apart of their lives through church and worship. I love getting to go to the school and church and seeing the progress every year. Last year we worked at the school everyday and the amount of work that has been done since is absolutely incredible. Tomorrow we get into the routine of the week by loading up early and working all day. I am very excited because we are going to Batey 106 which is where I worked two years ago. I am excited to reach out to the friends I made there. Like Katie said, tonight is all about preparation. We have lots of pills and vitamins to count, but I can not wait for tomorrow and what is to come in this week.
